Apple brings Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.1 dev beta, but there are a lot of limitations

Apple has started to introduce features from its AI suite with the release of the iOS 18.1 developer beta, available since Monday.Announced during the Worldwide Developer Conference(WWDC)in June,Apple Intelligence was initially absent from the first set of developer and public beta versions.

  Usage Limitations

The iOS 18.1 rollout of Apple Intelligence is restricted.According to Apple’s June news release, only users with an iPhone 15 Pro,iPhone 15 Pro Max,and devices with M1 chips like the iPad and Mac,can access these features, provided their device language is set to U.S.English.However,users have noted, and testing has confirmed, that the device region must also be set to the U.S.,though this doesn’t affect the App Store region. To activate Apple Intelligence features, users must join a waitlist via the new Apple Intelligence&Siri menu in settings.Once accepted,it may take some time for the AI suite models to download, meaning not all features will be available immediately.

  Features

Siri Enhancements:New animations for Siri have been introduced.Additionally, users can now use a text prompt for Siri by double-tapping the bottom bar.

Writing Tools:Users can proofread or rewrite text in the same tone or adjust the tone to”Friendly,””Professional,”or”Concise.”Text can also be converted into lists, summaries, tables,or key points.

Mail App Improvements:The Mail app now includes a summarization feature, prioritizes important emails at the top of the inbox, and provides one-line summaries of emails.A smart replies feature allows for quick responses to emails.

Focus Mode:A new Apple Intelligence-powered Focus Mode called”Reduce Interruptions”uses AI to filter out non-essential notifications.

  Missing Features

The current version of Apple Intelligence lacks several anticipated features, such as ChatGPT integration and Image Playground.According to Bloomberg,Apple is still working on fixing bugs in these features,so users will have to wait for future updates to test them.
